NAF earnings are considered federal earnings It is, however, different from federal civil service earnings because the funds used to pay NAF personnel come from other sources. Civil service positions are paid with funds appropriated by Congress On the other hand, the NAF's funds are self-generated by the Air Force Club, bowling center, golf course and other activities employing NAF personnel.
In the NAF we have two types of positions: "Flexible" and "Regular". Flexible employees have work schedules that depend on the needs of the activity These employees can work a maximum of 40 hours per week with a minimum of zero hours, and receive no benefits. Military spouses may be eligible to apply for job preference for DoD NAF positions in conjunction with their military sponsor's transfer to a new duty station. Spouse eligibility begins 30 days prior to the date the military sponsor reports to the new duty station. An eligible military spouse preference is a military spouse who married a military member prior to leaving for service under a statutory tour Military spouses can apply for any employment position in pay band NF-III and above, CC positions and equivalent hourly wage positions in industry and commerce. However, this preference applies if the spouse is not already in the grade/pay band applied for in the Federal Service. ) A continuing position is defined as a "regular" position and does not include "flexible" or "temporary" positions. Military spouses will be referred to using the Military Spouse P reference until they receive a continuing designation. The military spouse preference is not waived if the military spouse declines a job offer on a continuing (flexible or temporary) basis.
Documents required for spousal preference: Documents describing proof of eligibility for military spousal preference are a permanent change of sponsor's station (PCS) order where the spouse is designated as husband or wife, or a copy thereof. Letter of approval from the command sponsoring commander with a copy of the sponsor's PCS order. You must provide us with a copy of these documents to apply using the spousal preference The military sponsor must be an active duty military member of the armed forces, including the United States Coast Guard, who has gone on to serve under a statutory tour. The military spouse preference does not apply if the military member's sponsor's move is a PCS with retirement or separation. Migration Employment Preference: Involuntarily separated military members, and in some cases, their family members, will be provided with facilities and services to facilitate the transition process from military to civilian life. Transitional Hiring Preference (THP) was made available by the National Defense Authorization Act of 1991 (Public Law 101-510). Preference can be used for any job of NAF which is open for competition as per merit practice, CC, NF-III and above and in Crafts and Commerce. THP ends upon THP placement or reduction to any NAF position (whichever occurs first) to which a THP-eligible individual applies.
You may be eligible for veterans preference if you served in any branch of the armed forces. By law, veterans who are disabled or have served for a specified period of time in the armed forces or on active duty in a military campaign are entitled to more benefits than non-veterans.
